Plastics industry applications

Estudios Termográficos

Infrared thermography is a technique that can be used in the plastics industry for process optimization and quality improvement, as well as in the development of new tools.

In the thermoplastic injection molding process, by means of thermographic images on freshly injected parts still in the mold or just removed, or on the mold surface itself, it is possible to obtain extensive information on the transformation process:

  • Temperature deviations at critical points (injection points, inserts, thicker areas of the part, etc.).
  • Detection of hot spots caused by friction of the thermoplastic material in some area of the mold.
  • Effectiveness of temperature control.
  • Effectiveness of the mold temperature control system.
  • Proper heat distribution, both in the part and in the mold.
  • Study the evolution of the temperature on the surface of the mold until the process stabilizes.
  • Optimization of cooling time.
  • Validation of the results obtained with simulation programs.
